Used to measure strength of the inspiratory muscles, primarily the diaphragm
The greatest force that the chest muscles can exert to take in a breath
Normal value is greater than -60
A numerical result -20 or less would cause serious concern and probably require intubation
Indicated for:
Suspicion or diagnosis of GB or MG
Usage
Assemble device
Being sure they have a tight lip seal, Instruct the patient to take in a slow, steady, breath as deeply as they can. (Think sucking in through a straw)
