Aerogen Nebulizers
Routes/machines you can set up with an aerogen:
In-line with invasive and noninvasive ventilator
In line with high-flow nasal cannula
Aerogen is placed on the “dry side” of the heater
The Max amount of fluid that should be in the med cup is 6ml of medication / fluid
The med cup position should always be in an upright position to ensure nebulization
Hudson (Acorn)Neb
Flow should this be run around 8 - 10 liters per minute
These are nebulizers which hold approx. 6mL
These are not used for the delivery of antibiotics, steroids, or Pulmozyme
Use this neb, not the salter neb, to give Racemic Epi(can give in aerogen)
Breath Enhanced (Salter) Neb
Flow should be run at 7-8 liters per minute
Advantages:
Delivers medication only during inspiration when using a mouthpiece so patient may receive more medication
Has a smaller, more efficient particle size, and a faster output than a regular jet nebulizer leading to a faster medication delivery with significantly more medication depositing in the lungs without an increase in cardiac side effects
